Show Quilt - Well Maybe Not....

Happy Saturday to you....
We finally finished our chores outside and got to come in and cool off. I am working on the borders for a fall quilt and got to thinking about this quilt. Years ago I wanted to make a very extra special quilt and maybe someday put it in a show. I knew what show I wanted it to go in first and if it got accepted my mom and I might travel there to see it hanging (that would involve an airplane and a small vacation for the two of us). So I drew up a pattern and found some beautiful fabric and spent hours sewing and quilting. Every star point had to be perfect, every tree had to perfect and every quilt stitch had to be perfect - the quilting was even done with gold thread! I will tell you, this is the last quilt I hand quilted. I figured out I could spend a whole lot of time making quilts if I could get my mom to quilt them for me!!

Finally the day came to fill out the quilt show form and mail the quilt and my money off. About ten days later the quilt came back! I didn't understand, maybe I had mailed it to the wrong address - why no - they didn't even like the quilt!! How can that be - it was perfect! Well, they didn't like the color choices, they said the piecing was poorly executed and the design was poor. I cried some and carefully folded the perfect quilt up and put it away. This quilt has never been seen by anyone besides myself before today, its been folded up very neatly in the quilt cabinet. But you know what?? I think its time for it to come out and get enjoyed - I still think its pretty.....

You know yhat? some time the 'Quilt Police' suck! I Take that back. the quilt police always suck. That is a beautiful quilt and a heartbreaking story! I'm sorry you never shared that quilt with anyone before now but I'm glad it didn't stop you from your beautiful designing and precise piecing!

You did a lovely job on the quilt. I am not one to take criticism well so I just don't enter into anything. Swaps, judged quilt shows, County fairs or anything that will bring my love of quilting down. Glad you are still able to enjoy the art of quilting. You have a treasure. Chris

I ran across your blog while I was browsing Quilter Blogs.com. I clicked on your site because I wanted to see the beautiful appliqued quilt up close.

Phooey - who cares what the stupid judges thought way back when - the quilt is beautiful and you should be very proud of it and display it for all to see and enjoy!
