Join the Fun - An Online Quilt Show!

I had the opportunity to go to Houston Quilt Show a few years ago and see the wonderful quilts that are shown there. They were breathtaking. I remember one quilt that had bears and trees and they looked so real. My husband and I got to walk around and just get up close and enjoy each quilt. The place was pretty empty and we thought it was odd that it just wasn't packed with people. After a few hours Jerry suggested we go sit down and have a drink and rest a little before we finished looking. WELL, thats where all the ladies had gone - Vendors! Oh my goodness, I have never seen so many vendors and so much to buy!

The other night I was listening to Pat Sloan's radio show and her guest, from Amy's Creative Side invited quilters to show a quilt on her online show.

This is my 3rd quilt. One of my favorite magazines showed this quilt on its cover and so with my Christmas money and my magazine off I went to my favorite quilt store. I can remember the day and even the saleslady that helped me pick out the fabric. The only pattern I had was a diamond template and a piece of cardboard. I cut out thousands of diamonds and just started sewing. I used white muslin for the set in squares. Judy Mullen - a great quilter and friend came over one day and we basted the quilt together on my family room floor. I started to quilt but soon it got pushed aside, the kids were little and I was busy. Then my mom had to stay off her feet for awhile and I suggested she could work on the QUILT. Little did we know how quilting would change her life. At first she was a little put out that she had to finish a project for me but then the quietness and enjoyment she felt as she quilted took over. Her home life was pretty rough during those years and the quilting was such a blessing. Pretty soon she was asking for another quilt to work on. This quilt has never been used. It has a special place in my quilt cabinet where I can see it everyday when I walk by, it has too many special memories......

If you have a chance go and check out the show this week!

This is a beautiful quilt. All the more special that you and your mother were both able to work on it. I was first drawn to the colors and then the pattern. I aspire to someday make a quilt as wonderful.

It's a beautiful quilt and a huge undertaking for a 3rd quilt. So wonderful that you introduced your mom to quilting through this quilt. Quilting often calms me like nothing else does.

Beautiful! Beautiful quilt!

I'm a long time quilter too and I can't believe you used a template- wow! that is not easy. I made a medallion quilt with a lone star center as my second quilt but it was just a small medallion. I'm very impressed.

Love the story of how the quilt was finished. Quilting is truly relaxing.

What a lovely quilt. I haven't seen a lone star pattern in a long time. They truly are amazing to look at. It's a shame you don't use it though.
